The landscaping at Sunset Silver Lake provides texture and color to the clean lines, flowing spaces and expansive glass walls of the four free standing structures without distracting from their modern architectural design.  Most of the common open space in the Sunset Silver Lake project is located above the parking structure.  The Architect was concerned about waterproofing and asked that we consider landscaping in pots. However, the expansive hard, grey open spaces needed more than a few pots to provide respite from the busy streets of Silver Lake, Hollywood, and Downtown LA. Charles’ solution was to place the pots in flowing gravel lined planting beds. This approach allowed us to maintain the benefit of separating the plant material from the structure with pots while gaining the circulation and massing provided by planting beds.  The gravel beds have also been good for hiding drip tubing and eliminating visible water stains.
